Production Group Leader-Supervisor

PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR

 

Job Summary: Oversee production and ensure appropriate training of Operators, completion of documentation, and output.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Must be able to read and write in English
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to train new employees
  • 5-7 years of experience in Production & Manufacturing environment, experience in leading a team
  • Ability to work independently and draw from experience with minimal supervision
  • Strong knowledge of the production process
  • Good understanding of Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations

Essential Functions:

  • Assist the Supervisor to assign/delegate tasks to operators, set-up technicians and forklift drivers
  • Assist the supervisor to ensure that all appropriate documentation is being completed correctly, Quality alerts, inspection sheets, production reports, product identification, traceability, operator instructions, packaging instructions, etc.
  • Monitor production output of operators, inform supervisor of any potential problems related to equipment and processes to minimize unnecessary downtime
  • To ensure that all equipment and tools are maintained properly so there is no interruption of production and to minimize unnecessary downtime
  • Analyze downtime to identify and provide resolutions on all problems as required
  • Minimize costs of operating through proper planning and efficient use of all available resources
  • To ensure that all first off/last off procedures are being always followed, notify the supervisor of any infractions sign off
  • Ensure LPA’s are performed as per schedule, follow up and communicate, close all outstanding issues within a reasonable time frame
  • Troubleshoot cells that are not efficient and to communicate to the Supervisor
  • Monitor/accountable for efficiencies.
  • Monitor production boards
  • Required to fill in for team members on production line as needed.
  • Accountable for scrap in AOR.
  • Responsible for ensuring all training within the department is completed in a timely manner, documented and posted. Provide on the job training and retraining as required.
  • Evaluate operator performance, utilizing performance evaluation sheets and make recommendations to the Supervisor
  • Ensuring end of shift reports are filled out at each shift for their areas
  • Oversee approximately 15-25 people
  • To train, develop, mentor and discipline subordinates to ensure a productive, efficient, and competent workforce to meet scheduled requirements in a safe work environment
  • To ensure that good housekeeping is always maintained- Understand and apply the 5s and lean principles, concepts, practices, standards and training other to become competent in the area.
  • Manage resolution of employee conflict, disciplinary, safety investigation and safety walk within area
  • Ensure the safe operation of all equipment by your direct reports and oneself; abide by safety training and regulations
  • Maintain a system of communicating ongoing departmental performance to subordinates on a regular basis
  • Abide by all company policies including, but not limited to the following: healthy and safety, quality and environmental systems, human resources policies.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards and legislation including Environmental Legislation, O. Reg 851 for Industrial Establishments, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (with emphasis on Section 28, (1) (a)-(d), (2) (a)-(c))

Work Environment:

  • 99% plant floor (PPE required), 1% office
  • Frequent need to give concentrated attention to surroundings

Health and Safety:

  • Responsible for performing all duties in a safe manner and reporting any safety hazards/incidents immediately to Production Supervisor
  • Maintaining H&S Inspections for their area
  • Ensure good housekeeping is always maintained
  • Promote 5S for responsible work area
  • Must work in accordance with Health and Safety regulations, Company and plant rules, policies and procedures
  • Must use or wear Personal Protective Equipment and certain clothing as required by the Company
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards and legislation including Environmental Legislation, O. Reg 851 for Industrial Establishments, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (with emphasis on Section 28, (1) (a)-(d), (2) (a)-(c))
  • Abide by all bide by all Company policies including, but not limited to the following: Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental Systems, Human Resources policies.
  • S. 27 (1) Duties of Supervisor/ Team Lead shall ensure that a worker, (a) works in the manner and with the protective devices, measures and procedures required by this Act and the regulations; and 9B0 uses or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that the workers’ employer requires to be used or worn:
  • S. 27 (2) Additional duties Without limiting the duty imposed by subsection (1), a supervisor shall, (a) advise a worker of the existence of any potential or actual danger to the health and safety of the worker of which the supervisor is aware; (b) where so prescribed, provide a worker with written instructions as to the measures and procedures to be taken for protection of the worker; and 9c) take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of a worker.

  • Quantitative Measurable:
    • Oversee approximately 30 operators and 1-2 forklift drivers

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 35lbs
  • Must be able to work with push/pull forces of up to 50l
