Tool and Die Technicain

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for building or repairing all types, sizes, and shapes of tools, dies, fixtures and jigs. Assemble and try out complex tools and dies on manufacturing equipment as required for production.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

  • Wears all required safety equipment and ensures area and environment are safe
  • Perform preventative maintenance as required
  • Clean and organize the area, keep the area free of clutter and safety hazards – 5S
  • Reads and interprets blueprints or works from verbal or written instructions or from the part to be copied or fitted
  • Plans the setup and operation of all types of machine shop tools, considering types of material, tolerances, types of cutting tools, coolants, lubricants and machine tool feeds and speeds
  • Heat-treats and welds parts as required
  • Determines specifications for inspection of work, using precision measuring and gaging tools, performing required inspection before, during, and after machining
  • Performs hand operations involved in producing jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies. Uses hand tools of the trade
  • Fits and assembles jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies. Sets up, runs off and tests die to produce a product to specifications, tracing die difficulties to their source and correcting the same
  • Tear down, repair, and reassembles tooling on the bench or in the press as required
  • Assist other tool room personnel with troubleshooting skills or ideas
  • Assist cell leaders with troubleshooting tooling during production runs
  • A high degree of precision and control in work where damage could be high and where muscular control and delicate touch are required
  • A high degree of attention and care is required, preventing injury to self and others when operating machine tools.
  • Possess good troubleshooting skills
  • Able to pull and set up tooling
  • Must have a valid forklift operator’s card (or be willing to be trained before starting the job assignment)
  • Process hourly/daily paperwork as required
  • Does in-press P.M.’s as scheduled
  • Other duties as required
  • Regular and punctual, in-person attendance is required
  • Blueprints, CAD data, sketches, and verbal instructions

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, products, or equipment. The associate is regularly required to talk and hear. The associate is frequently required to reach with hands and arms in repairing fixing, welding, or conducting inspections. The associate must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
